Ness has finally been accepted into the pack and is dating the pack leader, Liam, but the moment things start to go wrong she becomes the first suspect and is left out of the group again. While she tries to prove her innocence and figure out her feelings for Liam, things become more complicated when August returns to Boulder and a mating link clicks into place between him and Ness.
Ness wants to leave Boulder behind but then another pack threatens the Boulder Pack and her final decision is not an easy one.
I enjoyed the first book a lot and I just knew the second one would not let me down!
I think one of the reasons I am so hooked to this series is because I am truly rooting for Ness. She’s had a very tough past and that has made her very strong and scrappy, but honestly the poor girl can’t seem to catch a break!
The book starts out right where the previous one left off: Ness is now officially part of the pack and is dating Liam. But then her childhood friend, August, comes back to Boulder and turns out they are mates! So now she has to try to figure out her feelings for Liam and prove herself to the pack, all while being emotionally tethered to August. Talk about a dilemma!
Her relationship with the other characters is changing and I think where we see the most character development, other than with Ness, is with Liam. In the first book he is a sweet boy trying to prove he is not his father, but the pressure of being Alpha is taking a toll on him and has become an intense and spiteful person. I often wanted to put my hand through the phone and slap him! I really appreciate Olivia Wildenstein’s ability to make us see and understand the characters through Ness eyes and have our own feelings for them evolve along with hers.
I would have liked to see a bit more of the mystery that surrounds the pack, a bit of action here and there, but I love reading about Ness. She has been hurt and wronged and has to constantly prove herself to others, but she never loses her sense of family. Although she is still her feisty self, she has matured a lot from the last book. She is less impulsive and puts herself in other people’s shoes before acting. She still makes a few teenage mistakes but then makes up for it with her loyal character.
The story flowed very nicely and was an emotional roller coaster. And the ending! I did not see that coming!!! I cannot wait for the third book!
