STOP READING TO AVOID SPOILERS
Once again, SJM has blown my mind. Needless to say, her writing is magnificent but the real gift are the characters. Every single one of them, even the secondary and third characters, you learn to love and appreciate all of them. I feel emotionally attached to all of them.
I thought the book would mostly be about Feyre trying to destroy the Spring Court from within but that was just a very small part of it that has serious consequences. Feyre did her job well and I wanted Tamlin to suffer!
Tamlin: My feelings toward him kept changing throughout the book. At the end of ACOMAF I felt nothing but pure hate towards him. Then in the beginning chapters of this book I felt bad for him; he was trying to be better for Feyre, I guess, and he reallt loves her (or whatever his idea of love is) but he just doesn’t get it! Later on he appears at the meeting with the other High Faes and is such a douche towards Feyre that whatever little sympathy I felt towards the dude vanished. Then he saves her at the Hybern camp and again I feel bad for him, but finally when he gives his little life seed (Is that what it’s called? It seems and sounds wrong) to Rhysand and tells Feyre to be happy I was furious! LIKE SHE’S BEEN TRYNG, ASSHOLE, BUT YOU WON’T LET HER AND NOW YOU’RE TELLING HER TO? WHO ARE YO TO TELL HER WHAT TO DO? Anyways, so finally I just can’t stand him and he deserves everything he got.
Ianthe: I am so glad this bitch got what she deserved. Yay Feyre Cursbreaker and High Lady!
Lucien: I honestly feel nothing towards him. I neither like him nor dislike him and although I feel bad that he found his mate and she is not even remotely interested, I don’t think him and Elaine would be a good match. But do you know who would be a good match? ELAINE AND AZRIEL. I actually wanted to see more of Lucien… I feel like I don’t know enough about him and I feel bad that first he lost his first home and then his second home…
Azriel and Elaine: He is just special and I have nothing specific to say about him but that I love him and I wish he didn’t love Mor and he would just fall in love with Elaine. He has a gentle soul and Elaine would be perfect for him ❤
Rhysand: I LOVE Rhysand, duh. In this book he seems a little too perfect but I feel that this gave room more space for the other characters to grow and develop, so I’m not mad about this. Also, he is just the BEST. Everyone should learn from him what a supportive partner looks like. I wish I had read this book sooner, I would’ve dated less Tamlins. Yikes. Also, who else thought he was actually going to die??? I was crying in my office while I read this scene.
Nesta: Can someone please just tell me what her deal is? I like it that she’s all fiery but sometimes she’s just rude. And I still want to know why she never showed Feyre any affection when they were poor and why she seems to only care about Elaine. Homegirl already had issues when she was human and now that she suffered such a violation by being forced to change, I have a feeling things are only going to get worse…
But Varian, let us take a second to appreciate Varian because the way he goes to Amren and gets on his knees before her in the tent and then the happiness he feels when Amren comes out of the Cauldron is just everything…I love them together!
All the feels! This book was just so emotional. I felt really bad for The Carver and the Weaver and even Bryaxis! All he wanted was a little window for his home ❤ For some reason I want a Bryaxis as a pet. Augh and the Suriel kept helping Feyre because she was kind to him ❤ I legit cried when he was killed. He just wanted a friend! All these beasts just want to be loved and live comfortably!
Feyre continues being her badass self along with every other woman in the story. They are all very strong minded individuals and I really liked the idea of the library serving as a safe space for women who were tortured or abused somehow. All the characters have suffered a lot and are helping each other heal their past traumas by being supportive but also by respecting each other boundaries. We learn a lot more about Cassian, Azriel, and Mor’s past in this book and although they all come from painful pasts they are nothing but love and nice things. I love them.
